The Descent

The Descent was created as the final piece for my Drawing Studio course. I combined many reference photos of myself to achieve the look of myself falling. I used vine charcoal to render my figure and compressed charcoal to create the background for a contrast between the two parts. The project guidelines specified that the piece must include one portrait, but the context was up to the artist. I wanted to combine 2D and 3D elements to create an imaginary space made from different ideas and actions. I also wanted to take a step away from the complete realism I usually find myself drawing.
