Of Odes and Elegies is a mixed media piece created as a final for my Surface Research class. We were prompted to synthesize the topics covered in the course in any way we wanted, and I chose a mixed-media piece. I took some inspiration from my art history course to create a piece containing elements of late medieval art. I wanted to create something larger than life, with nods to the mosaics and religious themes in art at that time. The most challenging part of making this piece was the installation, primarily because of its size and the fact that most parts were hanging from the large branch at the top.

Shortly after completing this piece, I submitted it to an exhibition hosted in The Anderson Gallery by Black Fidelity. The piece was later featured on The Anderson’s, VCUart’s, and VCU’s Instagram accounts, as well as an online magazine.
