Made of Ash and Stars is a piece made in response to the prompt of choosing two objects and then intersecting their silhouettes. The idea of a matchbox came to me from a random word generator and a house seemed like the perfect unlikely partner to this object, in shape and narrative. I used a jigsaw to cut out the silhouettes, and I decided to carve out the window and text as an extra challenge. The inclusion of the text made the sanding and painting process very intensive and tedious, but the final product was worth it. I also challenged myself with the painting style of this piece, as I don't have much experience with painting, and I haven't developed my own style yet, so I tried to emulate a more abstract and impressionistic style for this piece. I decided to add tissue paper later in the development of this sculpture because I wanted to add a bit more of a story and depth to the piece.
