Exploration of Lines was a multi-staged project, starting with the wire head sculpture, which the negative space drawing depicted. The focus of this project was line weight as well as negative and positive space. As per the requirements of containing one symbol to represent ourselves, I took the hair from my drawing final and turned it into a gravity-defying symbol in this sculpture. The weight balance of this sculpture was challenging to achieve since I decided to make the face and shoulders quite simple, lacking concrete support, to emphasize the hair. The ink drawing focused on capturing the silhouette of the sculpture, and every detail that came from the creases in tape and folds in the wire. I decided to do a tighter composition to add some abstraction to the portrait and create a greater emphasis on the star eyes.
